Most folks end up in the 12–14 foot leg height range. Measure from the ground to the tallest point — usually your AC unit — and add a foot of clearance. Don’t forget things like satellite domes or roof racks. I’ve seen more than one roof meet metal in a way you don’t want to hear.

A basic 12×35 with a regular roof might run $4,000–$5,000 installed. Go bigger — say a 14×40 with a vertical roof, taller legs, and some side panels — and you’re looking at $6,500–$9,000. Still cheaper than paying for RV storage year after year, and you get the convenience of having it at home.

Sure — as long as it’s level and stable. Gravel’s my go-to because it drains well, looks clean, and keeps the mud off your tires. Dirt works if you’re on a budget, but an RV’s weight can leave ruts after a wet season. If you want the most solid, zero-maintenance base, pour a 4-inch concrete slab and call it a day.

Vertical roof, no question. The panels run up and down so rain, snow, and leaves slide right off. Regular or boxed-eave works for mild, dry areas, but for most RV owners, vertical is the “set it and forget it” option.

If it’s built to your local code and anchored right — yes. I’ve had units stand up to 90+ mph winds and heavy snow loads. The trick is using the right bracing, roof style, and steel gauge for your area. Skimping here is like buying a dollar-store RV cover for a hailstorm — bad idea.

Give yourself at least 3–4 feet on each side. You’ll want room to extend slide-outs, open storage compartments, and move around without squeezing past posts. I’ve seen carports built too tight, and now the owner can’t even open their awning. Don’t be that guy.

Absolutely. Taller legs, enclosed sides, extra panels for wind protection, lean-tos for gear, even color-matching to your house — all doable. Some customers have gone full enclosure so they can use it as a workshop when the RV’s on the road.

If the pad’s ready and weather’s good, a standard setup is usually done in a day. Larger or enclosed models can stretch into a second day. Still, it’s lightning-fast compared to stick-built construction.
